Your computer may have Usb1.1 support and the printer requires USB 2.0.If so you can buy A USB 2.0 PCI Card Fairly cheap at EBAY Canada.

What model number lexmark is your printer?

How can you tell if you have USB 2.0? Right-click My Computer Click on Properties Click on the Hardware tab Click on the device Manager button Scroll down as needed until you see Universal Serial Bus Controllers Expand that by clicking on the boxed plus sign in front of Universal Serial Bus Controllers At this point you should if you see something like, "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller". While the exact text may vary, the key is the word "Enhanced". If it's "Enhanced", it's USB 2.0. If it's not, then it's USB 1.x

Thanks Street1 The usb serial bus does indeed says standard enhanced pci to usb Host controller. The Lexmark Printer is a Z605. I have a new driver dnld'd from their site. Spoke to Lexmark support who are great and the young lady tried 3 times and then had to run. Can't see how I cud use any usb printer. Thank you kindly ve3te
