Hey. I am looking for a way to disable the Windows ME Splash Screen. I've tried TweakUI, but that only works with Win95 and 98. They've taken out MSDOS.SYS so I can't disable it there. Logo.sys is for the shutdown.. What's the file for start-up? I've searched the registry but with no success. I'm hoping to either disable the splash screen to see what's goin' on in DOS or at least change is to something else.

Like in 98 you will have to create a .bmp something X something than save it as logo.sys in your C:\...you can no longer get to the one that appears now since it is a supe hidden file!! You can download and use various boot screens from http://www.nucleus.com/~kmcmurdo/logos/

I have all files shown. Is it possible to run Win ME without MSDOS.SYS?
What is the path to it?

I have found this freeware utility to be very helpful in addressing your issue and much more. It is called X-Setup. Here is the link to download.

Get tweakui off of your win98 cd it will work with WinMe. Off the top of head its in the tools>reskit>power toys folder.

To resolve this relatively simple problem, we
need to venture back to the good old days of
DOS, the only OS that actually worked. First
open a MS-DOS window, and navigate to the
root of c:. (type cd..). Once you are there,
type

"attrib -s -h -r msdos.sys"

Then, using windows, go to your HDD and edit
the msdos.sys file that is now there. Chanage
"logo=1" to "logo=0"

save the file and then return the system,
hidden, and read-only attributes to the file.

... to do this go back to your DOS window and
type

"attrib +s +h +r msdos.sys"

THERE YOU HAVE IT, NO SPLASH SCREEN!!!!

logo=0 will work fine.

However, I suggest copying your msdos.sys file to winboot.ini, it helps me boot much quicker. (Me looks for one of the two, but it looks for winboot.ini first)

Cheers,
James

I don`t understand this forum.I am running Windows ME and I can`t find winboot.ini but there is winboot.sys which I can`t read with a text editor plus I don`t have the line logo= in my msdos.sys file.Winboost2001 can disable the startup logo but I am not sure how because it does`nt edit the msdos.sys file.Windows default startup logo is not made from logo.sys file which is just a renamed bitmap file.Adding a logo.sys file to your root directly will change the startup screen.The only logo file in either the root or windows directory is the logos.sys file for the final screen.I have put a complete set of logo files(logo.sys,logow.sys,and logos.sys) in but the logow.sys does not work.It is in the windows directory and it is a propper logow.sys file.(shutting down logo)
