Hello,
When I try to shut down windows me, (start>shutdown) a blue screen comes up with Windows Protection error... System Halted.
Anyone know the answer?
Please help....
Dale

do you have a SB Live sound card? If so try this
Go into :-
System Properties ,Device manager
then open up Creative Misc Devices
then on SB16 Emulation
Click on LPT Port Sharing.
Windows ME dosnt have this enabled by default
but enabling this will fix all problems.Let me know if it helps.

Uncle Grog...I just had posted pretty much the exact same thing...but mine only occurs when I've had the computer running for a while and I go ti shut it down. I'm running Norton Antivirus 2001....would that have something to do with it.
Thanx,

I am getting the same Windows Protection error... System Halted Blue screen when I shut down. Is there a fix for people without a SB Live card. I have a VIA motherboard with a SB PCI128 on board, NVidia Geforce 2 MX, no Antivirus software currently running on this install. I also seem to only experience it or at least 97% of the time after I have been playing a game. Examples include Half Life Counterstrike and Star Trek Voyager.
Anyone?? Please :-)

I have the same problems. I have a VIA motherboard, SB Live! MP3+, and TNT2 Riva M64. Seems the problems disappeared after I installed LiveWare and Live! drivers for WinMe (downloaded from here) and Detonator 3 version 6.5 (from here). Try it. Hope it can help you.

I'm having the same problem, I tried to solve this problem by formatting my hard-disk, and reinstall windows me, didn't work for me. Maybe there's a problem installing windows me after windows 98 se has been running on the system? I hope somebody knows's the answer, I'm getting sick of it!

Unfortunatly there are two companies that seems to be to be to blame, Microsoft and Nvidia.
GO HERE http://www.freespeech.org/Khephra/a/shutdown.htm#winme
to get the help for all those who have the problem and DON'T have a Nvidia card. For those with the Nvidia cards, either install and Detonator version 5 driver (current one is 6.31 that causes the problem) or look for a leaked version on the net (e.g. 6.34 or 7.17)

hey guys
I feel your pain. I installed Win Me from after having Win 98 se I have the same problem but I ignored it. But now I am trying to install the new ATI Radeon Video card and it keeps rejecting it... anyone encounter this problem and has anyone solved there own problem??
Thanks

I had the same problem, which has been fixed now. The problem was that windows was closing too fast before your hard drives could react so the system crashed. If you get the IDE update from their website, your problem should be resolved. The fix raises the idle time before shutting down and powering off.
