I am running 800MHz Duron not overclocked on an ASUS A7 motherboard with a Voodoo3 AGP video card. Windows ME was loaded clean. I am not getting any blue screen errors and the system runs fine except for random freezes that seem to occur during mouse movement. Days can go buy without an occurence and then it may do it 3-4 times in one night before I shut down and leave it out of frustration. It is not program specific...it's happened while running Outlook, IE 5.5, Easy CD Creator etc. I am not using a wheel mouse just a standard Intellimouse Mouse. I tried first with the drivers that come with ME and I also installed the latest intellimouse drivers with no success. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Does it freeze for good or only for a few seconds? What else is sharing an IRQ with the mouse? What is running if you do a ctrl-alt-del?

I use also use Win ME with an Asus A7V board, Athlon 750, 125Mb ram.
The system used to freeze virtually every day, in particular on the Internet when scrolling pages. I could move the mouse cursor but nothing else forcing a shut down and re-boot.
It has now been fixed... How?

1.Update (flash) your bios
2.Also consider installing new chipset drivers
and visual basic files as below...
Try http://www.via.com.tw/drivers/
Via Chipset drivers on motherboard may need updating.
***************
3. Try also installing up to date Dlls from
http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/vbrun6.html
(Visual Basic 6 SP4 Runtime library (vb6 dlls)
This should cure your problem

The only problem I now have is that ME freezes sometimes ONLY when I open up an application using the drop down menu of any program, forcing me to use Control/Alt and Delete to shut the offending prog.

Good luck

Ps.
From complaints I keep seeing on the forum, ME does not get on very well with Asus motherboards and Athlon chips...

Also, be very wary of downloading the latest update to Explorer 5.5, it cause blue screens with my setup.

Mouse does not share any devices on IRQ 12. It does freeze for good forcing a reboot. Applications in the background include Explorer, Hotsync, Systray, DirectCD, Navapw32, Sm56hlpr & rundll. The CPU & board are cooled well and I have 192 MB RAM. Thanks for the prompt reply.

In IE, go to tools, internet options, tools, and uncheck smooth scrolling.
you might try removing some of that stuff in you tray, and put a shortcut on your desktop.
sounds like you have way too many conflicting jobs running at the same time.
