Windows ME - Scanner installation problem!

I just received a new gateway computer with the Windows ME operating system. I went out and bought a Primascan Colorado 2400U Scanner.
When I follow the instructions for the USB Scanner Installation Card, I put in the CD-ROM and follow the instructions but it pops up a "Scanner Problem" screen stating "Unable to load the driver for your scanner." So I go to the www.scannersupport.com webpage on the instruction card and download the USB 2400u driver because it won't locate it on the CD-Rom that came with the scanner. When I try to run this new driver, it tells me the "Earlier version has been detected. Please uninstall old software and reinstall new software." I can't find the old software (to uninstall it) anywhere and, since it can't load it in the first place, how is it possible that it's even on my computer?

How I would try to fix it. Go to program launch on taskbar use uninstaller: if not goto add remove/ programs uninstall:ifnot go to c; program files and delete the folder associated with your scanner:if not do a find and delete any thing with the software name of your scanner.last go into system under control panel and delete the drivers for your scanner then reload software/drivers with scanner disconnected then reboot and connect scanner and let it autodetect/ plug and play.

Check the manufacturers web site for an updated driver. I had the same problem and got an updated driver... and poof... problem vanished.

I have a Hewlett Packared Pavillion computer with the windows ME 2000. I tried to install a memorex6136u scanner. The computer was telling me "that an earlier version had been detected. Please uninstall old software and reinstall new software." I was unable to find any old software in my computer. Is there an updated disk that you could send to me, so that I will be able to install the correct program into my computer? I bought my computer 4 months ago and am unable to use my scanner. Please help.
