i bought a new video card and windows xp for my hewlett packard system. before installing either i decided to restore my computer which i have done many times before with no fault. after restore completed the windows me license agreement screen came up and i accepted the one on top but the one under it i cant click accept or not accept, so i cant advance past this screen. is there some problem i dont know about with my computer. i tried just installing it in safe mode but the cd rom devices arent loaded in safe mode(i have done this on a compaq computer i have because the cd devices to load during safe mode and XP works perfectly)are there a way i can turn these devices on in safe mode or any other possible ways to get the problem fixed?

You must uninstall the old video driver before installing the new one.This is done in the Add/Remove Program.Reboot and install new driver.Reboot again.If XP is already installed and working what do you need Win ME for?Are you trying dual booting.If so Windows ME must be installed first on C and Windows XP later on on D drive.You should have at least two partitions.Good luck.

i dont have xp installed on my HP only on my compaq. im trying to upgrade to xp and install a new video card on the HP....also i cannot normally boot my computer i can only boot in safe mode because i cant get past the windows me lisense agreement. and as for uninstalling the old video driver...it is uninstalled........i just cant install the new one in safe mode....im just looking for a way to load xp without somehow getting past the lisence agreement that freezes after the first accept screen. also i have tried reformatting the harddrive with the recovery disks 3 times but the same problem occurs every time....accept screen freezes. i believe installing xp or the video card would take care of this. i just need to know how i can do this since i cannnot normally boot my computer. that you for the advice ...........still looking for a solution solution.

Ok, this one will be way out there :-) Not totally sure of what you say is happening. But, you might give this a try.
YOU DO HAVE THE ProductKey?
Yes - No
If no, just ignore this, ok. Open registry editor, and go to;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
In the right-hand side, look for
ProductKey "( it will be here )"
Write this down, EXACTLY, as it appears. Then double-click ProductKey, and clear the Value data: click OK. Close registry editor, and power down. Start the computer with the startup disk (EBD). At the A:\> type; scanreg /fix Follow any prompts, and supply any requested info. Take your startup disk out, and restart the computer. Again, when it starts, follow any prompts, and supply any requested info.Like I said, way out there.
Good Luck
