Elmerfud, several things come to mind. First thing to do is decipher the beeps. They signal that during POST a problem was detected. Find an explaination of beep codes @: http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm or http://sysopt.earthweb.com/biosbmc.... Find a troubleshooting guide @: http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/ Once you've got that sorted, I strongly recommend you follow 'Trev's Tweaks ...' @: http://www.burzurq.com/forum/trevtw... to improve ME. I did and it REALLY helped me. Made ME into a well behaved OS with only 64 meg. memory. If she has a really old machine, take a look at the amount of memory it has. Lots of older machines suffered from too little. Any additional can really help things along. HTH. Ed in Texas.
