Current System:
ASUS P4B Motherboard
Pentium IV - 1.5Ghz
Windows ME
1024MB PC133 SDRAM
80GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
VERTO TNT M64 PCI Video Card
Sound Blaster Audigy +MP3
Norton System Works 2002Problem:
It seems that I want to run programs in Windows ME and I get a low-memory error. I get the "Blue screen of death" that does not give me the "Fatal exception" error, but it gives me the "System memory is low. Norton Anti-Virus may not function correctly". I have uninstalled Norton but the "System Memory is Low" error keeps popping up I have 1GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive! I know the support pages on Microsoft talk about Windows ME having trouble supporting RAM higher than 512MB. Does anyone else have this problem? I just wanted to make sure before I go out and maybe buy Windows XP with hopes to resolve this problem. Please help......:) Thanks...

I have the same mobo, and same amount/type of ram on my machine, running WinME - I found that adding the MaxFileCache=528### (don't remember the exact number - it's 512MB written in KB) under the [vcache] section of System.ini did the trick. I'm working fine, with no issues at all, but had all the symptoms you experience until I added that parameter. Hope this does the trick!

Thanks for the reference, Viking :)
The maximum RAM in ME issue is addressed here

I posted this in your previous thread as well:
_________________When you have the amount of ram that you have (in excess of 512)Windows seems to slow down and you might try this "fix":
Add the following line to your system.ini - under the 386Enh heading:
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1
______________Fooling around with the min/max cache I have found is not always the best solution and cache managers don't really do what they claim to do. It is best to let Windows mangage your virtual memory for you. Believe me you can never "remember" just how your system ran before you altered the cache and you embark on a never ending adjusting cycle.

I was running Windows ME with 128 RAM, I am now running with 640 RAM. I still have the same "Out of Memory" problems now that I had before. I have added to the system.ini file the following lines:
MaxPhysPage=28000
ConservativeSwapFileUsage=1
MaxFileCache=262144Some or all the programs, most likely Internet Explorer seem to be leaking memory. Any other ideas on what I can do to stop this problem. It gets old having to shut down to get the memory back.
Thanks
Susan
