Hello I was wondering if M$ ever released a patch for the memory leak in windows me described here: http://www.extremetech.com/article2...

I was going to fiddle around my my computera t my dads and install ME on it for lan games such as diablo2 and SWBGB but if the memory leak problem still exists then I will install 98 instead, I know ME sucks but I like to expeirment with these things on my own and write my own OS reviews so I must review ME also however i don't want me eating up all the memory so it can give me a blue screen of death half way through the game. Bear in mind that my computer at my dads is merely a spare and that i have 2000 pro installed at my moms house.

Sorry about the horrible typos in the second paragraph should have looked more like this: "I was going to fiddle around with my computer at my dad's house"

"so I must review ME also"

Really? "Must" you say? Well then, the world shall eagerly await your pronouncements

"I know ME sucks"

Great - it's heartening to see you'll be embarking on this project without prejudice or preconception

My ME installation has been going strong for more than five years. I don't notice a memory leak with 512MB RAM, but I have tweaked it quite a bit, removed some unnecessary junk (for me anyway) and it runs like a dream.

This is an excellent place to start:
How to run Windows ME well V.5

I run my pc from early in the morning until as late as I stay up, but I do shut it down while I'm asleep and reboot between 3D games.

Great OS, in my opinion, just takes some learning and tweaking.

I use an earlier version of this:

BETA 10

But you should be very careful with it if you try it and read and follow the directions in the readme. Probably shouldn't mess with some of that stuff (rpces, scripting host etc.).

Removed a couple other bits manually too.

I guess it's what? Fun to say so - the joy of (mindlessly) hopping on a bandwagon and all that

You'll find that most (maybe all) of the contributers here have no problem with the OS - you may also find that some folks 'mysteriously' have difficulties with whatever machine or OS they use

That article is over 5 yrs old. The memory leak was supposedly present in Win98FE & Win98SE too, not just WinME. WinME has had a bad rap since day one...& it seems to me, the majority of the people who knock it, have never even tried it.

I sent the MS hotfix (a new Atmuni.sys) to your email address.

I used it for almost 6 years. No problems.

There is nothing wrong with Windows ME if it is set up properly, as in Leroi's response. I never experienced the infamous "memory leak" in all the years I used ME. However, playing games does test the system and I (and my son) always found it best to reboot when changing game so that the system had a fresh start. It takes only 2 minutes and it's well worth it. Give it a go!
