I have windows Me and when I start up it freezes before start up is complete every time. It loads ok in safe mode but system restore does not complete the restore and as a result does nothing. I would be gratful for any help thank you.

Did you run your antivirus while in the safe mode to see if there might be an infection?

Yes ran norton but it has come back clear no virus found.

Frist run a good standalone memory test to make sure you don't have a hardware problem. Try MemTest86_v3.2. Then in Safe Mode, run SCANDISK first in Standard mode, and then in Thorough mode to test the disk drive for errors (can take hours). Start the system like you are going to enter Safe Mode, but select the BOOTLOG mode. Allow it to hang and set a few minutes. The restart in Safe Mode. Use Notepad to open the hidden file C:\BOOTLOG.TXT and scroll down to the end. The last few lines may give you information on what was being started and did not complete, that is related to the problem. This type of problem can be caused by hardware failing or corrupted software modules.

There is quite alot failed all from directory C:\WINDOWS\fonts\somethingelse.ttf at the end of each one it then says failure code 0016 (but the two 00's look like a black circle with a white 5 in the centre if this means anything.though they are probably just 00) hope you have enough info from that to help me if you need anything else let me know thanks
