Hi,

One day about 2 months ago, the drive a thing im my compaq presario 4910 stopped working correctly. I think the drive is fine but here's what happens. When i put a disk in and double click on drive a, it thinks for a little (floppy light on) and says that the disk is not formatted. When i try to format it, it says that the disk is damaged. If i try to do it through an ms dos prompt, it says "general failure reading drive a". I've tried removing the device in the device manager so it will reinstall the drivers. Can someone please help me get my drive a back.

THats not a big deal, I believe the floppy disk was bad and just ignore what it says in dos. I have noticed that it will say that the A drive has a failure but it just means that the floppy disk / NOT DRIVE / is bad.

Just buy a few more floppy disk at the store.

I forgot to include a few details. IT does this to every disk, even new ones that work in other computers and used to work with this one before the problem. I also have another question, how do you delete a restore point, if you can?

According to the A+ Certification Manual, the floppy drive breaks far more than any other component. The truth is, even if you earn peanuts like I do for a living, its easier just to buy a new drive ($10) than it is to mess with it further. To me, it sounds like yours died.

As far as deleting a restore point, why do you want to do that? For space, if not, just make a new one and ignore it.
