I'm wondering.... Is there a site that lists every file and dirctory (including location) on the Windows ME CD???? Also, how do you know if you have the full version versus the upgrade version??? My friend has a computer with WinME but they didn't give him the CD... So we want to know this stuff... also, what is the version number of WinME, I mean, what's the "Final" version number???

If there isn't a site... would anyone take the time to lis all the files and directories???? If you don't want to write them down, please use the "print screen" fuction while your explorering the CD to make bitmap files... then convert them to jpeg... Thanks.

Well I really don't need every file... just how I would make a WinME CD... using the files they "preistalled" into my Windows directory. You see the company didn't give me a WinME cd, just restore disks... I want to have a WinME cd.
My version of WinME is 4.90.3000... is this the final version that's being sold in stores or did I get screwed???

Also, how do I know I've got the full version... versus on of the upgrades???

Thanks.

just go to C:\windows\options\install and if it was loaded with the defaults you should have the entire ME, all 153MB. good luck.

My windows\options folder is 347Mb...
my windows\options\cabs folder is 259Mb,
but just the files (not including all the directories) in the Windows\options\cabs folder is 169Mb... are these my WinME files or do I need all those other directories too???

If I put just these files on a CD then all I have to do is run setup????

Is there a bootdisk or something for WinME??? How would I use my "full" winME cd if I had to reformat my hard drive???

If I run setup will it tell me if I have the upgrade or full version somewhere???

Thanks for all the input so far.

James.

347, 259, 169 -- what difference does it make if you are going to burn it on a 650mb cd-r.

yes, just run setup and it will tell you what to do.

you make a boot disk very early in the setup routine so have a blank floppy handy.

a full version is made to run on a formatted C: drive. it is only the upgrade that requires you to show proof of an earlier version. you will know what you have when you try to load it.

and lastly, don't forget you need a product key to make it install. if you don't have it and you are on the machine where it is installed, just go to start, run, regedit, edit, find and search for productkey, one word. you will need this 25 alphanumeric key near the end of the install.(remember if you're prone to indiscriminate clicking or typing, back up the registry.

good luck.

Well the size doesn't matter... but I want to make sure that all I put on the CD is Windows ME... I don't want any extra files that my Computer company decided to put on just because.

Can someone please send me the files I'm missing... Here they are:

If I don't get a response in the next hour I'm going to post a new message above.
