Ever since I installed ME on my computer and my wife's computer we keep getting the same error messages when I install a program that say "_ins5576 (sometimes a different number) caused an error in kernel32.dll" I attempted to uninstall ME and even when it went back to Win 98 it still does the same thing. My wife is really getting ticked off with me for upgrading her computer. Does anyone have a solution? Alan

DLLs will change over time as things get added or changed. Installed programs are suppose to install their version of a DLL only if it is more recent. However, many sloppily programmed apps don't do it. DLLs can be installed in the programs home folder and that means you can end up with more than one copy of a DLL scattered throughout the system. It's also hard to determine which DLL goes with what app and if it does not have its own uninstall program a DLL put into the system subfolder is usually there for good. Now, what does this have to do with your problem? Well, it appears you installed over Win98 and more than likely you have ensured WinMe is dragging around accumulated excess DLL baggage. The best solution is to start from scratch and format your hard drives and install WinMe. However, you may not want to do this so try the following site: http://support.microsoft.com/support/search/c.asp? Use the type in question box, more than likely you will find the answer there.
