I have used the "new" ME O.S. to try to install my Epson 3250 printer. Now I get the message that some other program is using the port. I have tried changing the BIOS to ECP (which it is). My other ecp device now works but not this printer. I have tried to use the original printer driver from Epson but Windows says the unidrv.dll is older and I get no further. So its back to the ME driver from the list. At one time (and only one time), I could print the directory to the printer via MSDOS (copy dir>lpt1) but no more. This printer still works fine on my old pc with Win 98 but not here. Does anyone have any ideas? I have spend all weekend trying all the Microsoft help tips and everything under my printer properties looks just fine. I'm clueless now. Oh this is a new HP783 pc now but they say its not their problem so I've got to figure its the operating system.

Me does not work well or at all with older peripherals including printers and scanners. If Epson does not have drivers available that specifically say they will work with ME, the printer most probably will not work.

first give a little hard time to HP tech support and ask them to give to you the statement that your printer will not work with microsoft windows ME in writing (that acomplishes sometimes wonders... hehehe... almost as good as recording the phoneconverastions with them...but you have to notify them at the begin of the phone call!) your printer will not work with windwos ME... check out the epson site http://support.epson.com/hardware/printer/dotmatrix/ap3250/filelibrary.html My sugestion would be to invest into a new printer that is compatible with windows ME (innovation costs something) and pray that it will stay compatible with window XP and any other improved microsoft operation systems Regards Miro

I have very similar problem: new oem computer with windows me, old hp 310 printer. Variable prints: garbled after half page or so, sometimes full page ok. I resolved it by changing the bios ltp1 setting from 'ecp' to 'normal'. Now the printing is fine and can't tell what the difference in performance is. Perhaps someone can tell why it works now and what is the difference ?
