Do you have a real Windows CD or is it a "reinstall disk" from like Dell or HP or whatever?

firstly Diane, DON'T format......its usually the last resort and by the sounds of things, you MAY not know what you are doing (quote "I am a little bit scared to format the disk. I am not very familiar").

(if the necessity of a format arises, you get someone who is familiar with formatting to help you, in person)

1. Turn the PC OFF....right off (not restart). Then turn PC on.

any diff ??

2. Have you got a WinME Start-up Floppy Disc ?? if so, wack it into floppy drive, restart PC, and try to get to A:\ prompt. Then type SCANDISK C: (there is a space between SCANDISK and C). Note what the result says at the end of running scandisk.
(if you don't know how to get to A:\ prompt, someone in here can advise).

at a rough guess, i would say that you have a virus infection. Something similar, happened to my PC a week ago, with Explorer, Desktop Icons, not working. Norton AV was knocked about on reboots. I formatted and everything fine now

get back to us
