OS: Me 4.90
CPU/Ram: P3 256MB
Comment:

For some while I have been unable to use two graphics-based programs (ULEAD VIDEOSTUDIO 3 & SERIF PHOTOPLUS 7) due to the fact that they obviously use the same two DLL files, which are proving troublesome. In attempting to load these two useful programs, the following messages appear:

C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead Video Studio 3.0 SE\vstudio.exe
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

...... followed immediately by .........

ERROR STARTING PROGRAM
The MSACM32.DLL file is linked to missing export NTDLL.DLL:NtClose

I have checked that the files are present on the hard drive, which they are, though I do not not know what the "NtClose" means. If I had a copy of "Windows Me", I would re-install Windows, but my Windows is an OEM version installed by DAN computers, who have since gone bust. They did not supply me with a Windows CD.

If any kind soul out there could possibly help out, I would be very, very appreciative, as I miss the use of both of the programs mentioned above. I have reinstalled the programs but did not expect that to cure the problem - which it didn't ! I can only think now of a corruption in the registry ?

Computer details: Windows Me v.4.90.3000; Intel Pentium 3, 733MHZ: 256MB RAM; Asus motherboard CUV4X; ATI All-in-Wonder 128 video board;

Thank you for any help you may be able to give.

Try replacing the two files first by extracting the original ones, the ones you have are probably corrupt.

The information you need to do it is in this next article but originates in the above article.

MSKB A 265371 - How to Extract and Replace a Protected File in Windows Me

Check out the last sentence in #6

See how you go with that for the time being.

Having just said that, i can't remember if either file is protected or not. (ME not my main OS)

Read through both articles anyway and you should get there, if you get problems someone will chime in and guide you through it.

No worries :)
Before you dive in after your food.

Extract NTDLL.DLL first and overwrite the old one.

Try your software. ...No joy ?

Go ahead and extract and overwrite MSACM32.DLL

Try your software.

Still no joy ?

Go ahead and extract and overwrite BOTH files together at the same time (consecutively obviously), then try your software again.

There is methodology there, honest ;)

As an aside, check each software manufacturers website for product patches, info, updates, downloads etc.
