I have an new HP Pavillion with a Lucent Modem running Win ME. No errors evident with the modem but the modem cannot get a dialtone. Is this a ME problem or a modem problem?

I would have to say it is a modem problem or phone line problem. Since it is a different modem it could be more sensitive to the phone line than your old modem and may not work. Or it could be that the modem is bad itself. I haven't had any modem problems with ME I have setup 3 computer and opened up a brand new one up and the modem always worked

I have had the same type of problem with Win ME and a Sportster 33.6 internal modem. When it tries to connect, the speaker just clicks a couple times, and then says the computer I'm trying to dial does not answer. However, when I set it up as a standard modem, it connects, but only at 9600. What's up with that?

Try to disable the wait for dial tone option.

I had the same "clicks a couple times, and then says the computer I'm trying to dial does not answer" problem with a US Robotics 56K INT modem. Swapped the modem for exactly the same model and the problem persisted. Worked around it by using the "Standard" modem drivers.

Try downloading the latest Lucent Win Modem driver - must be version 5.87 (available from 9th October 2000) - I too was having A LOT of trouble with my Lucent Win Modem after installing Windows ME - until that is I downloaded the version 5.87 of the driver and now my modem works like a dream!!!
The 5.87 version of the Lucent Winmodem driver is Microsoft WDM-compliant for Win98, 2000 & Me. I downloaded my driver from http://808hi.com/56k/ltwin7.htm

I'm having problems with WinME and my Smartlink V90 modem. Everything looks OK in the device manager, and it says modem is working properly, but any ISP dialup software says that there is no modem installed. Any ideas?

I have a new PC with US Robotics Model 0766 model installed; suddenly it stopped working! I had to remove the modem and re-install it; while re-installing it looks for files like 3c1807vp.dll etc.. and can not find the files!
Could anyone help me??
Many thanks
