has anyone else had a problem with the defrag program? before i could scan disk then defrag no problem, now with ME, defrag wont advance past 15%, while it is still working, but the % never gets higher. i cleaned junk files and ran scan disk in both normal and thorough, anyone have an idea?

My disk defrag runs correctly regardless of weather or not my AV protection is running. Most problems like this are related to TSR's or problems with active X. Easy fix...go to C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\INSTALL\SETUP.....Execute the setup prog. and you will then be able to reinstall WinME in place...when prompted to save system files answer NO....when asked to make a startup disk say CANCEL. Wait about 20 minuts and you will be golden. You will not need to reinstall any appz or files since they will not be touched to begin with. When you are finally at your desktop first thing go to Windows Update and download all of the updates that you see except for the additional languages.

Have you tried to run defrag with windows in safe mode? (Press crtl during startup if WIN or enable startup menu from msconfig and choose safe mode during start up.) I can run defrag in normal mode, but it takes ages, and if I run defrag with the show details option enabled, it freezes at about 12 %, but that is probably a MOBO (A7V)problem. When I run in Safe mode, there are no problems at all.

the easiest way around that is to run defrag & scandisk in safe mode. defrag is coming across a file that is in use and can't get around it.
