Windows Me and DHCP Error

I recently purchased a new computer from Dell with Windows Me installed on it and a 3COM 3C905C-TXM 10/1000 Remote Wakeup Network Card. I have a cable modem and am unable to connect to the interent. I keep getting an error that says DHCP server unavailable. I have been on the phone with Tech Support for hours and have not been able to solve the issue. Is this a Windows Me issue and if so, how do you fix it?

Whose tech support, Dell or the cable company? I don't think Dell will be able to help.
If you haven't tried, 1. In your bios, there should be a setting that says PNP OS = YES/NO. Try flipping it to whatever it isn't presently. It may be hidden in a dell bios. 2. Move the NIC card to a different slot inside the computer.
Either of the above things will change the resources the card uses. There may possibly be a hidden conflict.

Try asking your internet provider to give you a static IP address.
