I'm getting ready to do the third reformat and reinstall on my four month old, $4000 Dell computer. almost all of what I read in all the posts is happening to me. We all have one thing in common...windows ME! Can someone tell me what to do now? DELL wont send me a Win 2000 package to replace it..unless I want to purchase it. I've already spent $4000 and I'm getting very little work done because I'm ALWAYS dealing with software problems. Someone PLEASE suggest something fast! Will Microsoft fix any of this???????

WinME is a pain when it comes to hardware. Do you have a scanner loaded? I don't care which brand. My personal experience with factory installed ME is that it does not recognize the scanner software drivers, no matter who makes the item. If you have one, uninstall it completely. Use "search" to remove all references to the little jewels that were installed. Next, go to "run" and open MSCONFIG, uncheck almost everything that runs when booting up. DO NOT TOUCH SCAN REGISTRY or ANYTHING ELSE YOU MIGHT HARM YOU. Try only those simple tasks, one at a time until the PC works the way you like. Good Luck. None of the sources, Microsoft, HP, Compaq, and/or scanner manufacturers have good info.

This is exactely why I upgraded my Machine, instead of getting a new one seems the new machines seem to have difficulty with Me, I have a 5 year old Machine its a HP, and to be totaly truthful They helped me alot, never had a problem with support, if you bought that computer from Dell I would make them fix it, especially for that amount of money. Ella... microsoft will not fix it... they will ask from you $35 and will not give you any usefull advice.... just research your state lemon laws... contact federal trade commision, your congresman, better business bureau and any consumer protection agency you find in the phonebook.... keep sending them certified letters with return receit requested and C.C. to DELL and Micro$oft .... handle it the same way as if it would be a new car lemon.... you paid good money for the computer and it is YOUR RIGHT to get a good product... dont let anybody to send you on guilt trip because of your hardware, or software or your -so called lack of knowlege to tweek the operating system - A decent operating system should work in the background and you should not be even aware of it. I have similar problem with my brand new compaq, not as severe problem but annoying anyhow. Regards Miro

Ella, I think DELL is traying to avoid it's responsability. Could be a good idea if you publish in this page all the info about the DELL office giving you bad service. I'm sure somebody gonna read this.......... GOOD LUCK
