I've been trying to get Yahoo messenger to work on a friends new PC.. which
has Windows Me installed... I'm not 100% familiar with Windows Me.. I use Win98SE..The question is... does Windows Me have some sort of Built-in firewall..??
I've looked through his computer & could not find any installed firewall
programs like BlackIce or Zone Alarm for example, the Messenger & any other
programs besides Internet Explorer itself refuse to connect... e.g. multiplayer
stuff Quake III... Team fortress etc.
I've tried every option in messenger preferences tab with no effect (no proxies..no
network detection etc)... just cant get it.
Also tried the security settings in IE.... they are all at normal settings...Any help greatly appreciated..

Yo Papa,
Windows ME does not have any built in fire wall. You have to install one to have one. With Quake 3 you have to install the 1.27h patch for it to work online in Multiplayer mode. That can be found online by going to Planet Quake.com and going to the Quake 3 site via the link on the page.
As for Team Fortress, can't help you there as I have not played it, but you may want to find out if the latest patch or update has been installed.
As for Yahoo Messenger, I have installed and used it on Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 and Windows ME, and it has worked fine for me. Is your friend also using AOL instant messenger? If so, you will have to shut AOL Instant messenger down before opening Yahoo messenger, as The two programs do not like each other. Make sure that AOL Instant messenger is not auto loaded at start up.
If you downloaded Yahoo Messenger from the Internet you may want to download it again and reinstall it. It should work. If not, then there may be problems with your friend's Windows ME installation.

Thanks for your time & suggestions... I'll another look at his machine & check the quake III version & the AOL thang...
