I have updated Win ME a while ago; and among the updates that have been downloaded was the Windows KB891711 component.
I ran Dr. Watson yesterday which said that Windows KB891711 component has changed Windows system files. ( Dr. Watson is a built-in diagnostic tool for Win ME ).The question is: does that necessarily indicate a problem? do I have to uninstall that update?
Dr. Watson also displays messages like : If the taskbar is acting funny, try to terminate CTFMON.exe and mmtask.tsk ( multimedia background task support module ).
My taskbar does, in fact, act strangely sometimes. Usually, the taskbar icon indicating the keyboard language keeps on disappearing and then coming back, but now it's gone for good.I tried to terminate CTFMON.exe (using Ctrl+Alt+Del), but it keeps re-initiating itself somehow; I also tried to do the same for mmtast.tsk, but I couldn't locate it .
I welcome any suggestions or advices;
and thanks in anticipation.

After I installed that Windows Security Update off the Windows update site ,my PC started having alot of problems ,radom errors computer freeze up etc .When I checked the close program box to see what was running ,I noticed it was listed ? I went to MSCONFIG ,(Start/RUN/msconfig/statup tab) it was listed in the startup to run ,I removed the check mark from the box so it would not run in the back ground and all of my problems from the update stopped ! Check it out ?
Good Luck Nick

The earlier versions of that KB891711 were foul, caused no end of problems on a lot of machines. When the revamp was produced in April '05 this was the end of most folks problems.
It does (unusually) appear in msconfig, which is correct. It runs each time you boot.

... just to add that KB891711 appears in Control Panel/Add-Remove (or whatever they call it in Windows ME). It can therefore be uninstalled and the newer/better update collected.
