Recently while on the web, my IE icon in the quick-launch tray changed from the e to a square with a blue top band as I attempted to open another session. Since then IE will not open from here. Trying the desktop IE e icon brings the error message "Windows cannot find iexplore.exe This program is needed for opening files of type 'File'." After checking Program Files/IE/in WE and not finding it, I did a search for iexplore.exe (& variations)and sure enough, the file does not exist. I have been using Opera since quite successfully (in fact I think I have come to prefer it), but some sites, and MS update, seem to insist on using IE to be accessed, even with Opera emulating IE. I have tried updating IE, & MS tells me I already have the latest loaded. MS help is no help. Does anyone have any ideas? If not, I think my next step is to uninstall IE completely and reinstall. Ta muchly in anticipation.

Try a System Restore to a date B/4 you started having this problem .If that does'nt work, look carefully threw Windows Explorer ,you may have a copy of I.E. that you can use to reinstall it.Another option could be to pick a registry backup ! Good Luck ,Nick
