I am having some serious issues with Win Me. I have always used Microsoft os and never haqd any real complaints. I have a athlon 550 with a Voodoo 3 agp card and a standard modem and a pci 128 creative sound card with a 128 megs of ram. i get nothing but unknown errors, MSHTML.DLL error, COMCTL32.DLL error or the best one of all Windows Protection Error blue screen.. Anyone recommend a good priest? I think my machine is possessed.. =(

download ATM (Another Task Manager) freeware
http://atm.idic.caos.it or http://web.tiscalinet.it/TbEnrHP

just create a folder on your hdd and unzip it to there. can even be run from a floppy

close all running apps. then use ctrl+alt+del
to close the ones that dont show in the status area (most often erroneously called "system tray")
double click on the atm.exe icon
hightlight and click the "kill" button on all processes except:
KERNEL32.DLL
EXPLORER.EXE
MSGSRV32.exe
MPREXE.EXE
ATM.EXE

close ATM (or kill it with itself) :-)

reinstall ME from the cd (or the cab files if you coppied them to the hdd)

do this from windows not a dos boot disk.

reinstalling inplace like that can often repair problems.

you should not upgrade from Win98 to ME. If you format and install clean, you will have no problems.

dodgy third party drivers are often the problem, not windows.

Had all of that. Then when I uninstalled, explorer was merged with media player making both useless. Had to re-install Win 98. No help here, but will try the suggestions of ahiah above and try again. Glad I backed up my old Win 98 install on another drive.

didnt say your not supposed to do them, just a bad idea and all the problems seem to be coming from people who have upgraded rather than format and do a clean install.

Win me works great for my HP 8760C 733mhz upgraded from Windows 98se with the Hp upgrde of Windows Me. Jim updated our Bios that made all the difference even for Windows 98se. We dislike error messages also. We froze up in excel and marcos a few times though when using floppies.

Best Regards,

Nancy
