we're running ME on a gateway Pentium 3 machine with an SB Live! soundcard.
"control panel->gaming options" will allow us to add a gamepad (standard 4 button gravispad) but will always say it's "not connected" even tho it's firmly plugged into the soundcard. restarting the system changes nothing, and device manager reports that we have "game port for Creative SB Live!" working properly with no conflicts, listed under creative miscellaneous devices.
the gamepad in question works 100% on other machines, even one with the same model soundcard (running win95).
we have the same problem trying to install a logitech wingman extreme joystick. it always thinks it's not connected.
i don't know much about USB, but could it be that since the system has USB ports, ME thinks that's where it should be looking for game controllers? any help appriciated.

I don't have a solution, but I did have the same problem. I plugged in a Propad 6 and it was properly detected and installed, but it wouldn't work.I plan on trying a USB control pad next time I go shopping for one and see if that works.

Try this...
uninstall the software..Reboot but Dont plug in the usb pad. Install software and reboot..
Plug in now and see if Me detects it.

Reply:

check the device input/ouput address
it should be 0201 or 0207
if it is not this address then restart in
safe mode and open your device manager and
manually set it to 0201
then restart and it should find it
