I ran IE 6 update from MS and now the Win ME will not boot in normal or safe mode. I have tried reloading the ME, but still will not work. When it boots, the taskbar shows up for a second and then goes away. I sure would appreciate some help. What a pain!

One other note, when Win ME boots in normal mode, you see the taskbar for a second, it disappears and when I do a cntl-alt-del, there is nothing running, no explorer, no icons, no taskbar. Any help would be appreciated.

could try booting from a startup disk and type scanreg /restore and choose one from before the problem started. to try and get into safemode boot with a non system disk then after it says non system disk press f8 and it is suppose to give you the boot menu. if all else fails format c: reinstall windows.

also from the startup disk you can run scandisk at a: type scandisk c: press enter scandisk will now run.

If I were in your situation I would go to another PC and check that I had all the up to date versions of my drivers downloaded from the manufacturers' websites and then I would format the hard drive and reinstall from scratch using a boot disk. Microsoft have an article on the Windows CDs on how to do this and also on their website. On the ME CD you'll find the excellent article in \addons\document\guide and it's called mqsg (believe it or not). The information you want starts about page 31. On the website, go to http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q255/8/67.asp and http://support.microsoft.com/support/windows/topics/winme/setup/setupht.asp http://www.windowsreinstall.com/ is also useful Then, when finished, go to http://www.computing.net/windowsme/wwwboard/forum/14062.html and do a general tuneup BEFORE loading your programs. Load your programs one by one to see if any are causing a problem. Good luck. :)
