When did this start happening? and have you tried using system restore? if you upgraded from win 95 to win me there is a patch for this. go to the microsoft home page and search for a patch.

Ok Start your comp in safe mode and click start->run->msconfig.exe the it brings up the system manager then click the tab that says VXD and disable all of them. One of them should be affected. Go down the list and check to see what one is affected. Then restart and keep going. Then go to run type REGEDIT then searh for the affected file.

My Windows Protection Errors during shutdown have recently been fixed by video card driver updates. I was getting the BSOD about 60-70% of the time. Now, I get a frozen computer, as in a black screen and I have to shut if off at the UPS because it doesn't recognize the power switch, aout 10% ot the time. I guess that is progress of sorts. I am looking for other updated drivers to maybe fix the freeze.

I get the same error, only this will not allow a boot into Safe mode; the same error occurs in any mode. Boot from CD and try to solve the problem i think... will try tonite.

Correction to my earlier post. The bug came back - with a venegence (100%). I recently updated the BIOS and have not had the problem for a week. Time will tell if this is a real fix. The M/B is an Aurora 7Dx, the cpu an Athlon Thunderbird 1000MHz.
