Subject: Win ME Networking problem

Comment:

I've just done a complete re-install of the OS and all the applications on this Toshiba 1800 laptop with Win ME.

All applications have been patched and upgraded to the latest possible state. Everything works perfectly, except from the moment I plug in the network cable (which comes from a LinkSys hub, to which my Win XP PC is also attached and works fine).

I get internet access for a few seconds, then everything spontaneously hangs and forces a CTRL-ALT-DEL. This leads me to believe the problem is not settings related as the internet Hub connection DOES work - only crashes the computer after a few seconds.

Short of OS re-install, any ideas?

Try shutting down, connecting your cable, then start up! Sometimes the easy wy is the best!

sounds like a network card driver issue... sometimes updating drivers to most current can cause problems. The old addage, if it ain't broke, don't fix it applies here.
