Does anyone know if Win ME has problems running DOS programs? My friend installed Win ME and not one of his DOS program won't run, it gives him an error that the config.sys file is wrong. So we reinstall the program and it still won't start up. Anyone else come across a problem like this?? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Andrew

If your DOS program requires special config.sys settings you will have to boot with a book disk. Otherwise they will probably run ok.

Windows ME does'nt have an MS-DOS prompt which in my mind make me think it does'nt completely support DOS. My suggestion would be to run properties on the Exceutable and setup the envoirnment settings,, this may take some tweaking !

Win ME doesn't support DOS at all. It has a DOS background simulation, but any programs for DOS will not work. Sorry... talk to Bill Gates..

Why are you using DOS programs anyway ? By now, you would think everyone in the world has been weened of the DOS nipple. Are you afraid of change ? Doom for DOS is now available for Windows 9X.....

To response #5 shutup. We still have fully functional dos programs that we want to run that we payed for and still like. What are we suppose to do just throw the software away. It has nothing to do with change. Why should you care? You dont have to use it. I would not recommend running dos programs in WinME. Get you an old 486 from an auction or something to run your dos programs on. Thats what I did. Then you will have nothing to worry about.

Most versions of Windows suck anyway. Dos is way more stable. It has NEVER locked up on me the several years I have used it. I have used three versions of Windows & they all had problems.Believe me this is not the first time I have read about people asking about dos programs in WinME. It is asked all the time. It still lives on. In response to #5 use WinME and be happy. Don't knock people because they still run dos programs. It is a matter of choice. Just like Windows is your choice.

Cheryl, you should know, the DOS Real Mode is there, but Microsoft hid it for some reason.
