Someone please help!
When I try to upgrade Win 95 to ME the upgrade cd installer tells me that it needs Win 98 to upgrade but the read-me files enclosed in the ME disk say its possible.
Can anyone tell me what to do?

Early on they had separate versions for 95 and 98 maybe you have the 98 version . I think later on they combined them and you could use the one on either 95 or 98 . I know it's possible because I did a direct upgrade from 95 to ME and it went flawlessly , thing worked better than ever after I finished .

actually if you want to upgrade to windows me,your pc must have a "qualified" operating system .original windows 95 unfortunately did not listed as a qualified OS but the second release of windows 95 is.so upgrading to second release version of windows 95 before upgrading to windowsME is a wise choice.if not you can format and do clean installation.

When ME came out there were two upgrade versions:
1. The "blue box" Step-Up version.
This version was only meant as an upgrade for Windows 98. It was sold at a lesser price than the full upgrade to give those folks that have followed all the upgrade paths put out by Microsoft a price break.
2. The "white box" full upgrade disk.
This one could upgrade Windows 95,98, or 98SE. It was a little more expensive.
What does it say on the cd you have? If it says "Step Up", you will not be able to use it to upgrade Windows 95 to Windows ME.
