Hi Could someone please help me! I keep getting disconnected from the net, like just to check my email in yahoo, I'd have to connect about 5 times before I eventually get in. I don't think there's a problem with the modem since I just got a new one installed. With my previous modem, I still had the same problem so it must be with my computer, but WHAT??? I want to reformat my drive, but even before I can check out instructions on how to do so, I get disconnected, and it's soooo frustrating! I have formatted my c drive a number of times because of the same probles..and also I can't even use scan disk or defrag my c drive because it keeps restarting and errrr..someone please help!

Are you using AOL? If so, this is a known problem, and there are several fixes. My guess is that you can reformat until the cows come home and that will not correct the problem.

With regard to scandisk and defrag not running, see this post, points 2,5,6,7,9 http://www.computing.net/windowsme/wwwboard/forum/14062.html This might solve your internet connection problem too. If not, also get your telephone line checked by the company. It should be a dedicated data line for good quality internet use. I had that problem once and it was the telephone line. It could, of course, be connection software as well - check that your version of Winsock is up to date and that your modem drivers are Win Me specific - go to the manufacturers' website and download the up to date drivers.

I had the same problem i stayed on the phone with msn and hp until i got an answer to my problem one or the other told me that i needed a modem string i have an hp pavillion 9870 so i had to go to the hp web site and find a modem string and now i stay on for hours b4 i was just like you 5 mins. was a long time for me to be on.......... i hope this helps you just go to the web site of your pc brand and type in MODEM STRING in their search 'ell its worth a try good luck Jeanie

Do you have call waiting. This causes my modem to disconnect. Also there could be some disturbance on your line because of a bad connection to your phone socket.
