Hi to all techies & pros out there...
I'm using a Quantum 15GB hardisk running WinME...2 weeks ago...I dialed into Internet..just a couple of minutes after connected..my whole screen gone blank!
I shut down my pc ..& when the nextime I turned it on..I got this "NTLDR is missing" message...at first I thought this is just because of the NT loader file missing..that would be find...that later when I use the startup disk to boot my computer...I noticed all the folders & files inside my C: drive had gone..(just like I'd formatted it)..only left with a number "6" there...
Is this because of Virus?
After this, I ran scandisk..& scandisk prompt that I've lost clusters & ask me to fix! After I fixed, now scandisk renamed all my folders & files to numbers(eg.DIR0001, DIR0002...)..at now I'm stil getting the "NTLDR is missing" message & my pc can't boot into windows, what can I do to retrieve back all my files..& boot into windows?

Your help will be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

JJ

Format the drive and reinstall your OS. Regardless of what caused it...it's all gone now. You say NTLDR...were you running a dual boot or Win2K??

There are programs that can recover deleted partitions. I know my brother recovered 4.5 GB with TestDisk (he lost a partition due to partition magic). I have the program and I can mail it to you. It is a small dos-program, but there's very little information and you will need to find out what you need to do. If you want it, let it know here.

... but I think it will be to late because you used scandisk. If it's to late, you''l need to reinstall windows. If you don't want to loose everything, you can try to install windows without formatting, with a high risk of getting much errors, but then you'll probably be able to backup or to divide your harddisk, so you can copy everything to the second partition. After you've done that I strongly suggest to format the first partition and do a clean install of windows.
Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies..to all techies out there!

Yes, I'm running dual boot with Win2K...
For all your information...I tried not to format my C: drive..coz I have all my files that I wanna recover...all the files are still there..is just they are all renamed(File0001,File0002...)by the stupid scandisk!! Now is just my C: drive affected..my other drives D: E:(Win2K) F: G: all OK...Is it possible to rename all the files to the original name?

Johan..thanks for kind offer!
I'd much appreciated if you could send the TestDisk program to me! (cjjiun@lycos.com)
