where can i get 256 colors

i normally get 256 colors on my comnputer, but when i turned it on today it only has 16 colors. i went to proprties to change it back, but the 256 color choice was gone. Does anybdy know where or if i can get 256 colors. thanx

Check your display adapter settings, update/reinstall the drivers...

Yup, the drivers for you video adaptor have your 256 in jail. Have you changed anything lately? Reinstalled, etc.?

hi, I tried installing the drivers like you said, but afterwards this mssage popped up on the screen. "Incorrect command lone parmeters. Windowsinstaller V1.20.1827.0. Portions of this softwar are based in part of the work of the independant JPEG group.microstft"
i don't know what this means. i'm completely computer illiterate. thanx again
