Hello everyone, I just registered.Looks like a real good forum.I recently installed a softphone on my fathers pc. My problem is that, unimodem service provider is listed as" client disabled"( in the Dialing properties box in the telephony drivers tab.)I cannot find running services, to enable this service. I run WinXp on my pc and the "sevices" are listed in msconfig.Could some one plz tell me how to start telephony??? Thanking you in advance. Have a great day. newdog

WinME is a win9x OS and doesnt list processes/services like an NT based OS that you are accustomed to with NT4/2KPro/XP. The closest thing you will have is hit ctrl/alt/del for a list.

I am 700 klm, away from WinME pc, but I think ctrl/alt/del will just restart the pc, on my XP ctrl/shift/esc for task manager, can start and stop services in there.I wonder if you know off hand if msconfig is opened in ME what the tabs are is there one "Software Environment " ,because I could get to SERVICES from there I think. Thanks for reply, hope to get another, from you. newdog

No, it doesn't (unless you've booted up to DOS) - that will present you with a list (of sorts) of what is running, and allow you (sometimes) to 'kill' a particular process.

Try it

There are no 'services' as such in the DOS based Windows 3xx/9x/ME, just the 'task list' invoked by the 3 finger salute. There are applications that allow you a bit more control over running processes, but those aren't part of Windows

Comparisons to XP are somewhat pointless

Probably you should check your modem properties from Device Manager or from the modem applet in Control Panel

thanks for reply. It seems silly to me that by default in WinME telephony is disabled, and then the OS doesn't allow you to enable. However I have downloaded a couple of freeware programs that will show what services are installed and allows you to enable or disable.Webkeysoft Process manager...prcview....CurrProcessV1.11 are all good for WinME.If I have to I will install them and check, which is best. But first I will check your Ctrl/Alt/Del when I get to where the pc is.Have a great day.newdog

There are no 'services' in ME. Only running programs. AFAIK services are only under NT systems like XP, NT & 2000.
