What's happening with memory, Win Me?

When I finished loading Windows Me I had 600+mb of hard disk space. 10 minutes later after only opening and closing some applications I was down to 6 and not functioning. The drive is 1.6GB - the system is older and the hard drive is partitioned into small "chunks." Is there any remedy for my predicament without spending more $$$$.

Is the system restore function, disable it in system properties and the space should come back

ME will eat up some extra disk space....but not that much........I agree with the message above......you might want to disable system restore........it can take another 400 megs over time.....but it is a nice feature if you have the drive space.
