ok i got a problem. i go to click a .exe file and i get a stupid message windows cannot find blah blah blah you may have typed the name incorrectly in the run dialog...
At first i though i had the sub7 trojan but that cant be, because i went through all the steps on how to remove it and the files i was suppose to be finding i wasnt therefore i dont think thats the problem does anyone else know why
my damn .exe programs are not opening

which files arem't opening? ALL of them or just the desktop icons? When you go to My Computer, C drive, and open an executable program do you still get that error? if you do, you might try a system restore but i seriously doubt that'll help, you may still have a virus

It should be the residue disorder left behind in the registry after the recovery from a virus cleaner. However, since exefile is a vital for the system, an editflag setting prevents users to edit its entries in the File Options settings. The following lines being saved in a .reg file, ---named to your liking, a well-known web tip called it fixexe.reg, you can call it by that no problem---, will restore the necessary entries in the registry to their default :
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command]
@="\"%1\" %*"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\exefile\shell\open\command]
@="\"%1\" %*"Execute it by double-clicking on it would achieve the desired effect. (Note : extension .reg is a rigid requirement for this scheme.)

Also, care to eliminate suspicious references in system.ini and win.ini in run or load lines notably for potential recurrence of problems.

it wont open an excutable program in c drive or desktop or anywhere else
i checked all the regedit stuff and the
win.ini and system.ini files and they are perfectly fine...
help!!

Your problem falls into that Very Strange Catagory. Something or someone has messed up your registry. The post above may work. Create a .reg file with the above commands and double click on it. If that doesnt work you may have to reinstall Windows. If your still infected with a virus.....format may be the way to go.

Give us some sign that you do understand what we are talking about.
Also, if you can use regedit.exe to probe into registry, which means that .exe work. But, I seriously doubt my proposal above have a loophole, and I suggest you do the following :
[1] rename regedit.exe to regedit.com;
[2] from commandline run :
regedit.com fixexe.reg [hard enter]
with all paths inserted to point to the right files. (fixexe.reg refers to the above six-line instructions in response#2).
