With the budget you have, i would definitely recommend you to go for an Internal SCSI hard drive. You would need to buy a SCSI host adapter as well which is quite costly but would give you really good performance and speed overall (especially as XP is quite a "demanding" OS). I would recommend the Adaptec 29160 host adapter (which is one of the top of the range host adapters and its Ultra 160 compatible) along with any IBM 36LZ series hard drive (or something similar but make sure its U160).

Hope this helps

Roch,
Well,I gues the first thing you need to know and ask yourself is what will my MoBo work with at this time.(ATA33,ATA66,ATA100,ATA133,SCSI,firewire,ect.ect.) Then go from there so you will know what you can and can't do(that goes for upgrading to use these dif. types also)like if IDE do you still have a conection to use or do you need a card Do you have room for another card so on and so forth.
oops ATA133 not likely :-)hmm XP Corp.

I will agree with the first answer for a SCSI hard drive. What I would like to add is don't over do it. Buy a 9.4 GB which is the smallest in the market at this moment and the most cheap one and it will leave you chagne for a SCSI adapter and even if you buy both I believe it will leave you some cash left. An other advice is to instal the opperating system on this drive as it will give you maximum performance. Also instal the Office in that drive (which I believe you have) and a few other programs that you want to run securely and fast. The other drive format it and leave it for storage ussage only.
