What the .... is going on? How long has there been a log-in in operation? I've got a sick puter and it's taken me two attempts and over an hour to try and negotiate the "log-in" ... just to post a reply!!!

For crimes sake, whos idea was this?

I love Computing.net ... it's the first visit of every day ... but the log-in is CRAP! Either make it easy o

I just tried again; Get Computing.net page/click "My computing.net"/Log-in/attempting to log-in/Welcome/Go back to Computing.net/Go to Win ME forum ....

7 pages before I even read a message!

Is it April Fools day? or are you gonna make this easier?

And the *opt out* instead of "opt-in" on the *lets fill your details in* is a real bad idea; cant think how many peeps are gonna forget that lil *no* box one day! Computing.net sure is gonna be popular when that happens ;-P

Stranger still.
Nothing has changed for me.
Enter site, read, and reply.
Never get asked anything.
Justin's XP Post about the subject.
Haven't tried the two word response yet.

You don't have to login every time just tell it to remember your login. It sets a cookie that doesn't expire for ten years. I believe pretty much every other forum like this requires a login, although those require you to activate an account via e-mail (this one doesn't). Computing.Net is far too big to allow just any random person to post a random reply like "you suck, throw out your computer" and leave the site forever. Logging in will dissuade people from doing that.

Hello,

Just letting you all know that I fixed the "Attempting to Login" message. Now javascript should automatically forward you to the login page.

Thanks for the suggestion,
Justin

xxWell said, and we can only hope this to be true.

xxHaven't been around in awhile. (plus side, more work :)) Come back to this. (a well deserved addition. Well, that's my opinion anyway)

I think that this login in prosses was done very well.In total it took about 1 full min extra in my first responce this morning to register and then post.Mabey alittle inconvenant but now I dont have to retype my name and e-mail every time i want to post and thats going to save me alot of time. Some times I will try and respond to 5-10 posts at a time so it will add up quike.I just hope and prey we might get a few more moderators next.If your thinking along that justin I would love a chance;)

good luck and happy hacking

Gotta admit as a reg here I was stunned to see the login thing, but registered anyway as I appreciate the comments about people posting crap just for the fun of it.

To register is free and is no big deal, and I guess we'll just have to get used to it. The cookie thing is weird though, since I always clear all cookies, temp internet files and so on automatically when the browser closes so my PC doesn't carry heaps of crap for months on end, so I just hope that I don't have to reregister every time I come here, or change forums etc...

There - my two cents worth.

Odd thing happened today @ work.
Wanted to check this thread.
Pulled the site from my favorites and it presented the usual login screen, clicked on the user name field and it went mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
ad infinitum.
No I didn't have pizza stuck in the keyboard.
IE was frozen with an ever expanding/flashing cascade of m's in the dialouge box.
Oh well, exit IE.
Now the really strange stuff starts.
Upon exiting IE the desktop icon for IE had the same series of m's flashing below the big blue E and the other icons were flashing like a 60's light show, and all was locked up.
Had to mash the big button.
Was able to restart with no problems/connect and run trend micro, results negative. All seems to be normal now.
Most excellent moment.
Is anyone else having problems with the new setup?
At home all works well, always has.
