WinME Dell Pentium IV 1.7 ghz i think 256 Ram

i was wondering if you can tell me what is wrong with my computer.I have a fairly new system and all my icons are messed up. Mp3 files show the a blue rubik cube type icon, a saved email message show up as 4 small web page icon, a powerpoint presentation shows the outlook icon!! This happens fairly often. Also pc pitstop test tells me my hd isnot functioning properly (red flag)I believe the cache speed is low and it says that the issue is not a hardware issue. On top of that I can't even play any videos on my windows media player. all help welcome Might it be a virus or low memory or just a bad harddrive? thx all

You did not mention any virus software you have running.

CLICK HERE FOR HOUSECALL ANTI VIRUS SCAN

The software Tweak UI can repair Icons that are incorrect, if it's a shell icon problem

If you don't have TweakUI,just search for your shelliconcache file/folder,delete it,and re-boot.It is a "hidden file, however, and to unhide it you might have to first go to control panel/folder options/
view tab/scroll down and check "show all hidden files & folders".

Microsoft Knowledgebase:

Icons Randomly Change to Different Icons (Q132668)

It happens in all Windows operating systems. It sounds like you may need to increase the amount of cache shelliconcache can handle. The MSKB article above will give you instructions on how to do that.

You can try accesing this page

http://security2.norton.com/ssc/home.asp?j=1&langid=us&venid=sym&plfid=23&pkj=PFKWQDHFFROWTGEKOPF

yes i know is too long.

in this page you have to choose "Scan for viruses" then symantec will execute the antivirus.

This option only make scanning of your HDD and it doesnŽt repair it.

When finished scanning will appear a log file and there you can see the infected files and the viruses.

Then you have to go to this page:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html/

and youŽll see a list of virus and removal tools for each virus.

Excuse me for my spelling becuase i am a foreingner.

See ya
