What is the correct setting for View-->Encoding in IE6?

I have it set to "auto-select" yet many web sites don't display any pictures (just boxes with a red "x").

WinME
IE6
Celeron 1.1
128 MB RAM

Isn't it the same as in 5.5 ? then if it is ( which I believe ..) it should be the default when you first install it.

I dunno what the setting should be.

I set it to "Western European (Windows)" and I see all the images. When I select a link the setting goes back to "Western European (ISO)"
