I am a novice at this stuff and after some minor problems as a new user of Ad-aware, I decided to restore by one day but after selecting date and running restore, message read 'cannot be restored to....... No changes have been made to your computer' I tried restoring to an earlier date with same result. Eventually decided to go back to pre-Ad-aware date and got same message but Ad-aware had been removed! Everything seems to be working except when I open Netscape (my default browser), I do not get the 'connect to' box and IE opens as well. System restore is enabled and 'File system properties-Hard disk box' slides are set to max (4338MB) and full for System restore space and Read-ahead opt. respectively.
What have I done and what do I need to do? Thanks,

You've done nothing probably. Restore is absolutely crap in Windows ME, which is why most long term users turned it off a long time ago. However, it does offer a certain level of protection if it works properly.
I'd purge all your restore points by disabling system restore and slide that slider back down to something reasonable, or your going to waste so much space with crap, it's untrue.
Not familiar with Netscape, maybe there's a "repair" option like there is in Internet Explorer.
Netscape ?? Try Mozilla 1.7.2. :)
That would certainly eliminate the need to use spyware removal tools like Adaware, although it is useful to have it around, and essential if you use IE for any length of time.

Take it as given, after you've disabled restore, you re-enable restore and create new restore points for yourself ...and adjust that slider bar. :)
IF your finding that the C:\_Restore folder is full already and difficult to do anything with, then you will have to create an ME startup disk, via the control panel, add and remove programs and the startup disk tab, and boot with it into DOS, and type:deltree C:\_restore
Reboot. Go into Explorer and look at the C:\_Restore folder and it should be empty, bar a few files. Now reset that slider.
