Hello there. I would like to know your opinion on WinME. To me, I think it really sucks. I bought and installed it the first day it came out. It was just horrible. I had problems with almost all my peripherals. Everything ran fine on Win98. But once I switch over to WinMe, everything wasn't working. Yeah, it auto detects new hardware and updates it but it doesn't let you configure your devices anywhere..It also actually runs slower than Win98 according to benchmark tests. The only thing that's good about WinMe is the startup/shutdown speed. Otherwise than that it's just the same as Win98. By the way, I just switch back to Win98 and dual boot it with Win2000. Win2000 is really great. About 5 times faster than Win98 i would say.
Gotta agree w/Me above. You are outa your friggin mind if you think Win2000 is five times faster than 98. Win2000 is solid but, the gaming benches blow unless you write specific bat files to properly allocate memory to specific programs.
I think ME sucks for using it as your only OS. I have a dual boot with ME (for gaming only) and 2000 (for everything else). As long as there isn't too much going on in ME, it works pretty well. I leave it to 2000 to handle all the real work.
pete, i am sorry if i am depressing the NAV of your micro$oft stock. I just like to get adequate product for my money. ME is a lemon, cant help it. If my posts are boring to you it is easy to avoid them, i am always posting under my real name. Regards Miroslav Vadovic
No probs yet. But I got a 2.5 month old Dell, running a p4 1.4 mhz, 512 rd ram.
I think for most crying (like babies) that ME ain't working, that's because they don't know how to tweak the system restore, manage their registry files, and tweak their msconfig. Plus they probably got welfare systems running, and expecting to get performance leaps with a s---e O/S to begin.
Now I ain't saying ME roks, cause it sucks crap if you don't know how to do some "tweaking" on it. Go with 2000, always. Like I said, I just got this beautiful Dell, and the bitches wouldn't let me have 2000?????, so I got stuck with ME.
For the expert, go with 2k. Wayyyyyy better. Just to give you a stat, I haven't turned my damn computer off since I got it. It hasn't frozen, it hasn't been put into hibernation, the damn screen hasn't even been turned off. I've probably have reset the thing, maybe 8 times tops. I've already blown my 19 inch doing hard core visual programming, and maxing out my video settings. I'm getting a new triniton sent asap, since I called LEVEL 2 dell tech support, and bitched them out royally for the s---e they put me thru.
BC BUD, it is sad that windows ME needs Pentium4 1.4G and 512 meg RAM to run... i thought that it should run on anything better than pentium 150 and 32 meg ram... i guess microsoft cheated on the installation box a little.... i guess there is nothing else for me to do then just to throw away my 3 month old $2000 PIII 600 mhz, 192 meg ram welfare notebook and buy the same kind as you did. :) Regards Miroslav Vadovic
Don't be so quick to fuss at "Me" about the "5 times faster" statement. It may not be 5x faster, but it is a LOT faster than ME! In fact, on the Microsoft web site, there are downloads, updates, etc. that reference the slowness of ME. Check it out.
