When i type in a specific web site and hit go it goes to a screen that says web site not responding. if i type in a keyword in the search box it will go to results for that subject and i can get to the web site that way. this just started doing this yesterday. what is the problem?

Have you scanned for spyware,trojans,viruses/virii?
What browser(version) are you using?
Have you applied all the appropriate MS updates?
Have you tried a repair of IE via the control panel/add-remove programs?
Have you cleared your temporary internet files, cookies? Done a disk cleanup?
give us more to go on...

Drummerboy- A couple things.. 1) Are you using AOL..? if so try purging artwork. 2) Are you typing the address in exactly how it is supposed to be..ie. http://crow244.tripod.com if you beleive that your typing it correctly, try again going to site using keyword. When the page loads, highlight and copy the address, close the window and open a new one to say google or somthing.. when the new page loads.. then right click on the address bar and paste the addy you copied and hit go. If that works then you must have had a typo.
To purge artwork on AOL. Sign off completly. click on the aol icon on your desk top. when it loads to the password prompt screen, click on settings up on the tool bar, then click on preferences, then click on Font, Text and graphic. Where it says graphic preferences....40MB. run that down to 1 and click on save. close that window. close AOL completly. A window will pop up in the left hand corner of your desk top saying it is removing graphics stored in your browser.. wait till it goes away and then reopen AOL. once the password prompt screens loads again go back thru the same thing, click on settings... preferences...font text and graphics... and change it back to 40 and hit save, close the window.. then close AOL complelty. ( having fun yet)... well.. know you need to all that one more time... step by step as laid out.. and.. if you dont have AOL.. I hope someone reads all this that does have aol and has a problem with pages loading
