about 30 miniutes ago, I sas surfing the internet on a dialup connection, and just out of the blue, my browser closed, explorer closed, vius scan was disables, and the only thing I could see on my screen was my wall paper. I could not even get the start menu to pop up using the windows key on my keyboard, so I had to press ctrl+alt+del so I could shut down.
Once I got up my system back up, I checked my firewall, and the log file was full of blocked IP traffic originatin from an unknown source. I ran a virus scan using both of the programs, and I am clean. I want to know if I was hacked, or if my computer was just spasing out. My firewall is the one that came on the McAfee Virus scan 6.0 CD. If I was hacked, is there anyway I can trace it? Please help. Thank you.

I'm assuming that in the log file it also gave you the ip addresses of the blocked traffic. If so then yes I can help you. Email me.

k semler,
I'll answer the second one. Zone Alarm is free for most. Zone Alarm Pro will cost. Check out the site.http://www.zonelabs.com/

You have a choice of 2 excellent FREE firewalls: Zonealarm or Sygate 4.2
I use Sygate, it's more configurable and it doesnt create software conflicts like Z/A did - purely personal problem between Me, Isp and Z/A.
Also, take a look at there site:
http://www.sygate.com/Goto: http://grc.com/default.htm
And do a couple of simple tests on your current firewall - 'Leak test' and 'shields up'. And do a little reading while your there, but bear in mind the site is designed to play on peoples fear and ignorance so dont't go signing up for anything, apart from the free tests you can do.
Also his strong preference for Z/A excludes the newer 4.2 version of Sygate, which i think beats most hands down!
Suck it and see as they say!!Viking
