Name: Nick R (by Nick Ritchie)
My PC came with intergrated graphics and sound .I wanted to play games that required a graphic capabilities with more mem. then the 4M.B. the intergrated had. I was sad to realize I had no AGP slot on my M6TWG M.B. ,so I had to install a PCI graphics card. I purchased an ATI RADEON 32M.B. PCI Graphics card .Installation went smothly and its worked fine for the last four years with originnial drivers ,even though I was urged by many to update my driver .ATI says its a must that you uninstall the previous driver b/4 you install a updated driver .Since all of the games I was using where working fine ,I was sticking to the "dont fix it if it aint broke" Well I ended up getting a version of the 3.8 catalyst drivers ,that someone assured me was a great driver package that would improve my cards abilities. I came up with a problem my originial driver would not uninstasll via control panel , so I did not install the catalyst 3.8 off CD .I then went to windows update and they listed a driver update fpor my PC ,I went ahead nerviously and tried ibnstallingthe driver update ,well it updated the driver ,however sure enough ,now games the one being the most graphics intense with the highest minimum requirements Medal of Honor Allied Assult, and Nascar Racing 2004 ,both worked with originial driver, however not Allied Assult wont runat all freezes up my PC when it tries to loasd even when I turn down all of the graphics settings for the game . I believe my graphics card is the RADEON 7000 32M.B. PCI ,the driver I have installed from Windows Update says they are drivers for RADEON 7200 ? Besides reformatting and reinstalling all of my apps ,is there another way to uninstall this driver ,I even tried a third party uninstaller ADD/REMOVE Pro , it alos cannot uninstall driver "error initializing" is all I get ,or Windows Add/Remove error "cannot locate uninstall.log" HELP ? I also have the ATI TV WONDER USB Edition ,still works fine ! Other then the game play ,system is very stable ,with trev's tweaks in place ,Norotn Utilities ,Optimized Memorey Utility, Sysem Security Suite, Norotn Anti-Virus, SpyBot Search and Destroy !
HELP Nick, Happy Holidays !

Thanks street for the link ,I appreciate your help ! I beliveve however those directions are limited to WinXP ? Correct me if Im wrong. I forgot to mention I even reinstalled the driver ontop of itself to try and see if that would enable me to then remove it via ADD/REMOVE in control panel ,no joy ? I really enjoy playing that game Medal of Honnor Allied Assult, and trying to play it now completly freezes up my system ! Causing me to have to use reset button ,not even CRTL/ALT/DELETE will open the close program box ? Hopefully soon I wil be upgrading to a new much more powerful PC a 3G P4 with all the bells and whistles ,I was actually waiting for release of new O/S from Microsoft ,I use a laptop at work with WindowsXP on it ,and honestly I prefer the interface of Windows Me much more , I just dont like WinXP ,even though I know its a better more stable O/S ! The directions you linked me to besides being for WinXP ,the very first thing they say to doi is use the ADD/REMOVE utility in control panel, thats my problem it will not let me uninstall current driver "fail initializing" error, when trying to uninstall originial driver B/4 7200 driver error was differant "Cannot locate install.log" Oh well ,I just bought my son the Play Station 2 equivelent of Medal of Honor -"Call of Duty" special edition for $60 ! I can play that game till I decide if I want to spend a day messing wih my P3 ? Merry Christmas ,Bless eveyone here at computing.net

Your card is an antique - I'm surprised it runs those games decently at all...lol
Try downloading a program called DriverCleaner...then install the latest ATI Catalyst drivers (version 5.9) available for WinME directly from the ATI website.

I purchased the card probably towards the start of 2001 ! They did not have a PCI Graphics card with more memorey. However it met the minimuim requirements for alllied assult ,which where a P# or higher 700mhz processor, and a graphics card with at least 32M.B. Mem ? I play Quake areana still with no probs the only two games are Allied Assult and Nascar Racing 2004(have steering wheel & pedals, logitech) ,when they did run ,they ran with no hiccupps and game play was smooth on my P3 750MHZ 256MS SDRAM ? That was with originial driver tio top i off ,the problem is either the mixure of old and new drivers or that Windows Update installed drivers for the 7200 RADEON ,however I've read all Radeon drivers are backwards compatable !

Well it's almost 2006 & your machine is way behind when it comes to gaming. There are a lot of PCI cards available (although none are great). You seem to have no problem throwing money at games, maybe it's time to throw a few bucks into a video card instead of struggling with that outdated Radeon 7000.
Here's an FX5200 128MB/128-bit PCI card on sale for $50:

Nick, can you not just use system restore to roll back?
If not, try downloading the latest ATI drivers for ME, which are the 5.9 catalyst drivers.

Another option is to update your chipset drivers because they usually need to be updated if you do the video drivers.
See point 15 of the homepage post.
You can also act like you are reinstalling your video card and follow the instructions here

Thank you to everyone,I appreciate the taking the time to reply! Talk about a wide range of suggestions ,everythnig from install this or that driver to buy a new better PCI Graphics card .I belibe howver Iam finished with putting $ into this system and even though right now Iam watching the morning news in a small box with the TVWonder UB Edition ,while surfing the net via V90/56K fax/modem @connect speed of 46666bps. I will keep this PC ,however Iam putting any new monies into a top of the line custom build ,my first attempt at building a PC from ground up! Hopefully I can start thins at start of next summer ,till then I was hoping to get he graphics right on this system .I know the current driver is not right, and was better off with orig drivers off installation CD,
Thanks Again Nick

I was able to uninstall the driver that was installedby Windows Update ! There is a feature a Wizard that allows you to uninstall certain updates you installed from Window Update site via Microsoft, I found a link to open the Wizard right inside the O/S in the Windows Help, it had the display driver update listed ,I webnt ahead and followed the prompts and sure enough my system is back to the originial driver. Sadly ,this id not give me back ability to play Allied Assult ,it still freezes up my PC ! However strangly it gives me a clear picture of graphics , just wont run still .This is OK , its pushing me closer and closer towards a new more powerful system !
Take Care Nick
