I had to uninstall and reinstall my AOL, and now I see my volume speaker is gone down by my clock. I have no volume and I think my mic is not working now, maybe it is not connected to my recent AOL reinstall but that is the last thing I did. I also check my windows configuration file alot, because my AOL doesn't run right if I have a lot of programs running on startup. Maybe I unchecked something I wasn't supposed to, any ideas.

Hottoddy, you can take a look at your settings thru the start menu. Take a look at your sound devices and see if your mic is selected there and you can adjust volume. Also, you might wanna take a look at your start menu and see if you have it set to show the speaker. Maybe it got unchecked?

I foud that when Iam having trouble with my microphone either being reconized or the volume so low car barely hear it ,that using the sound recorder utility to configure your mic., might do the trick ,it worked a couple of times for me ! To get to sound recorder ,start/programs/accessories/entertainment/sound recorder !

Ed and Nick thanks for the info, but when I try those options it is gray its like I don't have a mic or sound device. There is nothing to adjust it is gray. Any ideas. It told me I needed to load a sound device, I have no idea where it went!

Have you looked at the device manager to see if you have a problem with your sound hardware (sound card)and or if your sound driver has been corrupted ? Right click on My Computer the click on properties, device manager ,the Sound Video & Game Controllers ,expand that key and see if you have a ? mark or a yellow exclamation mark by your sound device ,in my case its a Sonic Impact PCI , however my originial sound device was intergrated AC97 onboard sound that I had nothing but problems with.If you have a yellow exclamation mark or a green ? mark highlight the device and read the box with the device details in it, it will tell you if its a driver prob or H.W. , you can try the remove tab and then reboot ,your suystem will automatically detect the sound device and prompt you to reinstall it ! B/4 you do any of the above check all of the lines running to your speakes and even swap out the speakers you are using with some that you know work !
Again Good Luck ,Nick

Yes Nick now you are getting close to my problem. I do have a yellow exclamation point on my sound, video and game controller. Mine is a soundmax integrated digital audio. It days some device loaders could not load my device drivers. They are loaded but not working, I think. When I try to update the driver it freezes also. I'm going to try and remove it and reboot. I'll let you know what happens.

This is just an update for everyone. I finally had to use my recovery CD. I didn't have anything important on my computer, or I would have saved it. So now everything is working fine, but I lost four years. I'm having to update everything and all of the drivers. Thanks for all the help!!
