I have the same problem when trying to play Age of Empires 2. I get an blue screen that says VMM(01) + 0000DC99 Error: OE: 0028: C000EC99. It's getting really annoying. It happens most often when I'm changing resolution, but I don't know if this problem has anything to do with my video card.

if u have a via chipset, make sure via's agp driver is installed.
I have had the VMM(01) 0000DC99 Error: 0E: 0028 :C000EC99 error SOO Many times. I will try upgrading the via chipset. We should form a support group or something. Im running PII667x133 128MB133MHz GeForce2MX 32MB AGP, 6.49 driver version (Dec 2, 2000)

I have the same error on my PIII 800EB (Via chipset)running ME with a Hercules Prophet II 64 MB video card when I sometimes open new games (Giants, Crimson Skies,Starfleet Command II). I have tried the 4 in 1 drivers....loaded latest Hercules drivers.....New BIOS.....checked memory (133).....reloaded DirectX 8.......nothing seems to fix other than to keep rebooting until the game works with no errors...... Any clues ?

I'm stuck on this one guys ! For about three weeks I get the errors you describe on a wide variety of machines. PIII 733 to 800's. AMD Durons and Athlons. Different sound cards. Different memory brand/clocking. The error occurs with Nvidia Cards, TNT2 M64 and GForce 2 MX. The ONLY constants are Windows ME, DirectX 8, Nvidia Detonator3 and Via Chipset. (I started having trouble after installing DX8.) Still tring to find a solution... Will post one a soon as I find it :) Good luck all.

Me too. I'm getting really fed up with this crash. (It's the VMM(01)+0000DC99 Error:0E:0028:C000EC99) I'm running a PIII 866 with a Hercules 3D Prophet II MX, 128M ram, Tyan Trinity 400 system board, Win ME Latest Hercules and/or NVidia drivers. It's gotten so that I pretty much can't play any games now. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

My system seems to be working faster too. Thanks JHonny. Just make sure you have a system board with a VIA chipset. Otherwise you may run into some problems. Brooke

My problem also seems to be solved. I removed my 133 SDRAM and replaced it with 100 SDRAM and also changed the aperature size setting in CMOS to 64K. Setting the aperature size to 128 caused some problems so I reduced it to 64. So far so good........

We were having the same problem when trying to play Age of Empires, and 3DO Army Men using Windows 98. In desperation we updated to Windows Me. We still got the same error. Tonight we downloaded the viatech 4 in 1 drivers, and, cross fingers, so far we have not had an error. We will test it more thoroughly tomorrow, but we think we have fixed the problem! Thanks Jhonny!

Me too! VMM(01) + 0000DC99 Error 0E:0028:C00E99 on a clean, right out of the box, Gateway AMD 1gz. NVIDIA GeForce2 MX. Drivers dated 12/04/2000 - not playing any game, or anything, just sitting there and wham. There seems to be a lot of postings here regarding Gateways. I'd never buy another one.

Somebody told me that on some motherboards the AGP card can share the same resources as the pci slot next to it, causing a conflict!, well here goes have moved modem to the next availble pci slot , so will have to wait and see if I get any more blue screen of deaths. Anybody else ever heard of this??
