Hi, I just went through virus cleanup on my boyfriend's computer, and now I am trying to do some recovery. I have two problems that seem to each prevent me from fixing the other. The first is problems with viewing things. I get "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly." I found a suggestion for fixing that (http://www.winxptutor.com/helpsecerror.htm) but my second problem is I cannot open the start menu in either safe or normal mode. The button appears to depress, but the menu does not pop up. So I cannot use the "Run..." Is there any way to get the Run... interface without using the start menu? Also, in my reading I have seen many people advise system restore. I should note we do not *appear* to have a clean restore point. However, it is likely we have the Win ME disk around here somewhere.

try Windows Key + R for run.

The windows key is between the ctrl and alt keys on the left-hand side of the keyboard.

I guess I should have imagined it was a larger problem. When I launch regedit and try to look at HKEY_CURRENT_USER it says, "Cannot open HKEY_CURRENT_USER: Error while opening key." What is this board's preference? Do I open a new thread for this new problem?
