I have a Windows ME machine at school where I teach that two days ago (starting back to school( I did a complete update of my AVG Virus protection. After downloading the updates, I ran a complete virus check and it didn't show any viruses. Yesterday, I started to do a Windows ME update and a sign came up saying that I had a virus. Asked to rerun AVG to detect and delete the virus. I did and there were actually three viruses found. I got the three and then it also showed the same three in Win ME Restore. Upon deleting the viruses I found that the three viruses resident in Restore could not be deleted.
I know that in Win XP that you can disable the Restore points and after restarting that the restore would be deleted. Is that also the case in Windows ME.If anyone has dealt with this problem, I would certainly appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks in advance!!

This question gets asked several times a week in this and other forums. All the AV sites document that on both XP and ME you have to disable system restore to clear copies of any virus infected files that have been "backedup" by *StateMgr. It is just doing its job protecting the critical system files, where your Anti-viurs was not updated for new virus.
See: page

1. Disable system restore
2. go to (c:)
3. Click on Tools; Folder Options; View;
there should be a list of things there then check "Show hidden files and folders"
Now every hidden files/folders including _restore will appear...now you cna proceed to delete the files or just do a virus scan and it will be able to delete the files.
WHOA MY COMP SUCKS
