hey all I've got a compaq pentium !!! with 320megs of Ram installed. My question is why is win me still using my swap intensively? Would it be better to disable virtual memory at all, having plenty of memory installed like that? Please give me some advice on this. Thanks a bunch in advance. -Manny
Yo dude,on the Virtual Memory question. I have an PII 350 with 384 megs of ram,and I am a die hard gamer.(hence the need for a faster machine)..NO,don't disable the VM or swap file,(same thing.) as most programs,(games) are specificly designed to use it.Instead set up the swap file manually.set the min and max to the same size.I use it at 512mgs..the reason for this is when windows is controlling it,the swap file is only as big as needed.therefor actually moving data around on your hard drive all the time.with the swap set like this,it won't move and you will hardly ever have to defrag your system, unless you delete alot of info on the drive yourself.if possible, the ideal swap file should be located on a seperate hard drive of the same spindle speed or faster, but not on a seperate partation of the operating system hard drive, also what ever you set the swap file size to,when you restart you will see that much of your drive space now taken up.
